Duochrome Week: Day 3- Essie Shine of the Times & China Glaze Smoke and Ashes

I'm not actually entirely sure if either of these polishes counts as a duochrome. You see, I originally planned on using Smoke and Ashes because it looks like it has duochrome shimmer in the bottle... but on the nail, it just falls flat. And I'm pretty sure Shine of the Times is a holo flakie buuuuut just in the context of this post, we're going to say that these both classify under the theme of changing to at least two different colors at some angle. Alright?

China Glaze Smoke and Ashes is the dark black-ish color. It has a blue/green to gold shimmer that is lovely in the bottle, but on the nail it just looks.. like slightly tinted asphalt, I guess? It's not a bad color, at all, it's just not a real 'wow look at the amazing effects of this polish' kind of deal. If you're going for an edgy pseudo-black, then this would be a great color for you. And then we have an accent finger with Essie's Shine of the Times, one of my all time favorite polishes. It's an amazing flakie topcoat that shifts from teal to green to gold to orange to red, all with a slight tilt of the finger. So stunning. Plus it has a sort of 'snake skin' effect that's just wonderful.

As I was taking this look off, I noticed that all of the base color for Smoke and Ashes comes off before the actual shimmer does. And it looks really cool.

See all that shimmer? So nice. Too bad it's so covered up and all.
